The challenge
A multichannel retailer was connecting its sales platforms, inventory system and accounting software. The setup needed a clear division of responsibility for posting sales and cost of goods sold across marketplace and manually entered orders.
What we did
Our team clarified the channel mapping, distinguished marketplace invoices from manual orders and challenged whether the cost-of-goods process covered all relevant channels.
The external integration provider implemented the configuration changes. We then reviewed the resulting accounting entries to check how stock costs were processing.
We later prepared and posted marketplace reconciliations and explained controls for settlement timing and the split between marketplace payouts and loan repayments.
The result
The provider confirmed that the configuration was complete. Our subsequent check found cost of goods sold processing as expected. Later marketplace reconciliations were also posted.
The takeaway
An integration needs checking beyond whether sales appear in the ledger. Establish which system posts each part of a transaction, how the channels are covered and how the resulting entries reconcile.
