The challenge

An eCommerce retailer wanted to clear a bookkeeping backlog before considering further projects. Its storefront quantities were being used to support pre-orders and could not be treated as a reliable count of physical stock.

Payment reconciliation, transaction queries, stock costs and finance charges also needed attention.

What we did

Our team investigated the difference between storefront quantities and stock evidence. We requested actual month-end stock information and purchase invoices, separating inventory costs from shipping and fulfilment costs.

We also worked through ledger queries, payment records and loan statements as part of the cleanup.

The result

We delivered profit-and-loss and balance-sheet reports and confirmed that sales records were reconciled through the end of the reporting period. The retailer acknowledged significant progress.

Further clarifications remained, so this was a completed reporting and sales-reconciliation milestone within an ongoing cleanup.

The takeaway

Online-store quantities can serve an operational purpose that differs from accounting stock records. Understanding how those quantities are maintained helps establish which evidence to use at month-end.
