Frequently asked questions
Does TikTok Shop collect VAT for UK sellers?
It depends on where your business is established. For UK-established sellers selling goods located in the UK, TikTok Shop does not normally act as deemed supplier — you account for output VAT on your sales yourself. For overseas (non-UK established) sellers, the marketplace generally collects and remits UK VAT on qualifying sales. Many sellers get this distinction wrong in both directions, which is why it's the first check on the list.
Can I reclaim VAT on TikTok Shop fees?
Usually yes, if you are UK VAT registered — but only if you actually retrieve the fee documentation from Seller Center and book the VAT correctly. Sellers who post the net payout as 'sales' typically lose this reclaim entirely because the fees never appear in their books.
Why doesn't my TikTok payout match my sales?
Because a payout is sales minus commission and fees, minus refunds, plus or minus promo adjustments, across a settlement window that doesn't match a calendar month. Reconciling payouts back to order-level settlement data is the only way to know your real revenue, fees and VAT position.
